Our
SkinThe Skin
is the largest organ of our body, and protects us from
harsh elements in our environment. The Skin is also the
largest eliminatory and receptor organ. The skin
protects us by releasing such toxins as carbon dioxide,
uric acid and dead bacteria, produced by inner cells as
well as water through the pores. At the same time the
skin absorbs small amounts of what we apply to
it.
Our Skin - What is it made of?The skin is made up of the epidermis
and the dermis. The outer or upper layer of the skin is
the epidermis, a tough, waterproof, protective layer.
The Dermis, or the inner layer is thicker than the
epidermis and gives the skin its strength and
elasticity. In the epidermis are keratinocytes, about 90
percent of the cells named because they produce a tough,
fibrous protein called keratin. This protein provides
many of the skins natural protective properties. Arranged in
layers, the oldest cells in the upper layers, and with
the youngest cells in the lower layers.
The skin will amazingly
select certain substances to enter the skin and enter
our bodies through the pores. This is what why it is extremely
beneficial in using natural skin care products such as emu oil products we provide.
That is also why it can be dangerous to use chemical based products as well.
